Improved Stove
Impact of the program:
There was a village named Mamudpur at Jumarbari Union under Shaghat Upozila in Gaibanda district that 100% households were using Improved Cooking Stoves and all together 1742 households of a union were using ICS. It was estimated that use 1742 households will safe at least 20000 mature trees of the areas if they safe 3.5 kg wood per day. It was a great contribution to environment reducing carbon production and increasing oxygen in air. Villagers experiences that use of ICS was not only safe 50% fuel but also safe time of women’s cooking period and collecting wood, it was health friendly, safe trees and forest a lot and so on. These extra time and money could be wisely used for their family and community development bringing lot of benefits to them.
Future Program Possibility:
Ujjibitopran Society got some donor assurance to introduce this Improved Cooking Stove program in some locations in remote area in Borishal and Foridpur. We can design a package proposal for the potential donors to finance this program. Using productive use of traditional donation money or local fund could be mobilized for poorer households of community to support these programs to safe wasting valuable money and time. Thus providing or using only about Tk 500 to Tk 700 per family may safe about at least Tk 5000 to 10000 per year and onward. Institutional donation from carbon credit fund will be available when the organization will be able manage a minimum scale of ICS program. There is also possibility of partnership will local organization or Community Base organization to extend this program in wider areas in future. Thus it may be entry way to afford great contribution to our environment as well as to serve to foster community development. The visiting team was encouraged from the feed backs of villagers, WDP staffs and local committee leaders regarding social justice, local development, organizational sustainability and ICS program and likes to see the progress of Ujjibitpran in this regard in future. Please review this and send your suggestions for this proposed new program.
